BAS Book Club – Discussion Group
Book Discussion Clubs originated in the 1920s in the UK and remain highly popular in English speaking countries. They are regarded as a good way to meet new people and enjoy interesting conversations. They also offer opportunity to practise communication skills and arguing a point.
BAS Book Club exists since 2011. Its purpose is to bring together people who enjoy reading and like sharing their reflections and ideas with others. The language of our meetings is English, which means we are open to international members. This is indeed the case and the composition of a typical meeting is multinational. The whole set up of those meetings is conducive to very lively conversations, of depth rarely possible in everyday situations.
During our meetings we discuss specific books from a pre-agreed list. The list is put together by proposals of Members at the beginning of each calendar year. All suggestions are welcome: classics, popular fiction, non fiction, crime mysteries, love stories – as long as the title has been found to be an enjoyable reading .
Our meetings take place on third Tuesdays each month at 7 PM at the TARABUK café cum bookshop at Marszałkowska 7 in Warsaw. Members receive reminders of meetings and notifications of any changes that sometimes occur. We have a website page on Facebook: The-BAS-Book-Club, with dates of meetings and current titles under discussion. to find information about the next meeting.
There are about 100 declared members, but the size of a typical meeting is 6-10 people, very comfortable for inspiring conversation and getting to know each other. No membership fees, no obligation to buy books. If you would like to become a Member, please just come to one of the meetings or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
